This resolution provides clarity on upcoming days off, encompassing both religious and national observances, for the remainder of the current year and the beginning of 2027.
Remaining Holidays in 2024
Residents can anticipate four additional public holidays in the latter half of 2024:
- Hijri New Year: A one-day holiday is designated for Muharram 1, marking the Islamic New Year. This is provisionally expected in mid-June. The precise date will be confirmed by authorities, contingent on the sighting of the moon.
- Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday: Another one-day holiday is scheduled for the 12th day of Rabi Al Awwal in the Hijri calendar, commemorating the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This holiday is anticipated in August, with the exact date to be announced following moon-sighting declarations.
- UAE National Day: The final extended break of the year will be for UAE National Day, offering a two-day holiday. This is set to occur on Wednesday, December 2, and Thursday, December 3, providing a mid-week respite in the concluding month of 2024.
It is important to note that all Islamic dates are subject to official announcements from the UAE’s moon-sighting committee, ensuring accuracy based on religious calendar observations.
A Look Ahead to Early 2027
The new year will also commence with a public holiday. January 1, 2027, recognized as an official holiday under Cabinet Resolution No. (27) of 2024, will fall on a Friday. For individuals whose standard weekend includes Saturday and Sunday, this alignment will result in an extended holiday period at the start of 2027.
